Joy of cooking
In 1931, a St. Louis widow named Irma Rombauer took her life savings and self-published a book called The Joy of Cooking, which became the greatest teaching cookbook ever written. This 75th Anniversary Edition of the Joy of Cooking includes 500 brand new recipes and 4,000 of the most beloved recipes. Joy of Cooking is the ultimate reference guide that we have used for years. This classic was a part of Julie Child’s bookshelf and should be on yours.
The Silver Spoon
This cookbook combines both traditional Italian recipes and more contemporary Italian recipes influenced by other cuisines. Featuring over 2,000 recipes, it is somewhat the Italian version of The Joy of Cooking and known as “the bible of authentic Italian cooking". This updated version contains recipes for everything from basic sauces and marinades to salads, game, fish and baked goods, with each section color-coded for easy browsing. We have many favorite recipes from this book.

Julia Child
The legendary Julia Child revolutionized American Cuisine by presenting an approachable version of sophisticated French cooking through her cookbooks and television shows. Mastering the Art of French Cooking was her first culinary classic followed by The Way to Cook, both are wonderful to start your journey with Julia. As you open each book remember Julia’s adage:

James Beard
One of America’s greatest authorities on food and acclaimed chef, anointed the “dean of American cookery” by the New York Times in 1954. James Beard’s American Cookery is a classic featuring everything he learned about cooking including 1,500 of his favorite and most successful recipes. Two other award winning books by James Beard that we just love are James Beard’ s The Fish Cookery and Beard on Food.
My French Kitchen
If you have an affinity for French culture and cuisine, this book is a real find. Joanne Harris, along with acclaimed food writer Fran Warde, share a treasured collection of family recipes. All the classics are here – easy and elegant – Quiche Lorraine, Coq au Vin and Crème Brulee, plus an entire chapter devoted to French Chocolate. Bon Appetit.
